Our safety leadership in the helicopter service industry is widely acknowledged and continues to set the standard for excellence.

As the world's largest helicopter support services company, we have found that a total dedication to safety is not just good for peace of mind, it's good for business. Our Safety Management System is integral to our corporate business plan, bringing the expertise and knowledge of the entire CHC group - more than 60 years’ experience in more than 80 countries on seven continents. Our safety infrastructure is second to none. With industry-leading maintenance practices, advanced training programs, leading edge technology and a corporate culture focused on safety, our crews are always up-to-date and at the peak of their competence. Safety remains our number one priority. To truly deliver on our safety commitment, we recognize that it is not enough to simply implement a safety framework; safety must be a way of doing business.

Safety Management System

The standard Safety Management System (SMS) is a systematic process that is used to identify potential hazards, assess risk and develop appropriate response plans. However, we have established an Integrated SMS that takes a more holistic approach.

From processing paperwork to piloting an aircraft, the integrated SMS permeates every facet of our business. This drives our culture of safety and is the primary reason we have an industry-leading accident avoidance rate and superior quality standards.

Our SMS is also integrated with ISO 9001, 9110, 14001, and 18001 certifications to ensure we remain focused on customer needs and environmental stewardship. We have multiple systems in place to continually improve our safety record. These systems are both proactive and reactive in nature to ensure low risk, while retaining the ability to respond quickly and systematically when issues arise. The systems include flight data analysis, a robust reporting system, incident and accident investigation procedures, and corrective actions.

Leaders and employees are committed to building a culture of safety

Our safety culture plays a critical role in delivering an excellent safety record. All employees are introduced to the Integrated SMS and have the responsibility of defining their active participation in safety management. Our safety culture is based around a positive and open environment, using non-punitive reporting systems. Through our behavioural based observation system (BBOS) all employees participate in identifying and correcting unsafe behaviours. Heli-One employs a clearly defined “Just Culture” process with guidance from managers to ensure all employees are involved.
